Member survey highlights policy interests

18 May 2010

Thank you to all members who participated in InternetNZ's recent policy engagement survey.

We asked members to indicate their policy areas of interest, from a list we provided, and to note down their particular areas of expertise.

We received 97 responses; a healthy 47 percent of the total membership.

Unsurprisingly, the policy areas that most interest members are closely aligned with the technology issues du jour, such as fibre broadband, copyright, Internet censorship and filtering, net neutrality and Internet security.

Of less interest to members are the 'semantic web', ENUM, e-commerce patents, anti-spam and Telecom operational separation.

Members also told us what other policy areas were of interest. These included areas such as mobile broadband, free and open source software, web standards, digital divide and cloud computing.

The survey proved useful in highlighting the depth of expertise held by InternetNZ members, with many of the survey respondents counting themselves well-versed in the policy areas listed.

The image below shows the proportion of respondents who are 'very interested' and 'somewhat interested' in the various policy areas. We are aiming to use these results to prioritise our work, communicate with members more effectively, and develop ways to better meet members' interests.
